Default Porn performer retests HIV-negative

APNewsBreak: Porn performer retests HIV-negative

By SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An adult film performer who tested positive for HIV and caused the porn industry to shut down production as a precaution has been retested and the actor does not have the virus, a porn industry trade group said Saturday.

Production can now resume, said Free Speech Coalition executive director Diane Duke.

"The industry will be abundantly cautious as we try to nail down the reasons for what now appears to have been a false positive result on a previous test," Duke said.

The actor, who was in Florida, had been slated to work on a shoot for Mofos.com, but production was halted last week when the test came back positive for HIV.

Duke declined to release the performer's name, age or gender, citing the person's right to medical privacy. She also declined to say how her group learned of the case.

Production has been shut down since Monday in the San Fernando Valley's multi-billion dollar adult entertainment industry, which includes Hustler and Evil Angel's productions. The case was found at an out-of-state clinic that does not report to California health officials, Duke said.

The porn industry was similarly shuttered in late 2010, after porn actor Derrick Burts was diagnosed as HIV-positive. His case was confirmed, and he has since left the industry to become an advocate for the use of condoms in pornography.

The Free Speech Coalition is working on a database to track sexually transmitted disease testing among porn actors, a task formerly handled by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation before it closed in December 2010.

Known as AIM, the San Fernando Valley clinic had catered to porn stars since it opened in 1998. It was forced to close because of inadequate licensing.

Axiom: HIV infection is for life.

Fact: Many HIV positives turn negatives if retested after some time.

Rational explanation: either HIV is not for life, or the tests cross-react with other conditions, or both.

AID$ explanation: Later negativity means a diagnostic ERROR. We won't ever admit the possibility that HIV "infection" is not for life or doesn't lead to disease.

Conclussion: The axiom "HIV infection is for life" is not falsable, because when it makes a wrong prediction it is brushed off as an "error" every time. This is RELIGION, people.

It's been a couple years since my last test. I think it might be time to go back in to see if I still "light up". I realize I'll be damned if I do, and damned if I don't. If I don't light up, my initial test will be considered a false positive. And if I do, it will be 'proof' that I 'still have HIV'.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting if I come up HIV negative. At least I'll be free from discrimination by the health insurance companies, and I can show any potential sexual partners my 'certificate of cleanliness' lol. What a joke this whole thing is.

The HIV testing regimen isn't just wrong. It's been dishonest from beginning to end. It was deliberately foisted on us by a person who threatened his co-workers and lied to Congress and his own employer. When confronted with the discovery of one lie he goes on to another lie and swears that this time he's telling the truth. This is someone who should have been put in jail and whose credibility should have been stripped. Instead the most publicized story of his misconduct became a smokescreen for the even worse deed.

A little verbal garbage goes way too far. I was at this way too long.

The ONLY thing I worry about is the psychological effect of going and getting tested. I really want nothing to do with the 'mind screw' part of this anymore, as many of us are aware that's a big part of this whole scheme. But it could have some potential benefits, so I might do it. I think I am strong enough now. It should be like water off a duck's back at this point, regardless of the result.

Sorry for entering this thread later than usual. Forgive me--I was on vacation.

G Man,

If you can stomach the get your HIV test posters on the walls, the professional looking pamphlets on every surface, the stacks of HIV rags beckoning to be picked up and read, the smiling do-gooder interns, the "Hello, so when was your last test" and the ensuing rehearsed AIDS speak about to be spewed forth--parroted by the lowest paid AIDS social worker, let alone the smell of rubbing alcohol, rubber gloves and Clorox....

So be it.

But ask yourself, why? It's the biggest phony baloney test ever made. What's it going to tell you? Nothing.

For Ha-Ha's sake it might be OK. Like, in a drunken stupor after an afternoon of day drinking, take a bunch of friends who've been drinking with you. This way you can all laugh hysterically to some of the test questions; like, "Have you ever had sex with a sex worker"

I'm not worried about the result. But it would be nice to get a neg result just for health insurance and life insurance purposes. Not that I use a lot of health insurance, but I do need catastrophic. Can't even get that with my present 'pre-condition'.
