These people where also involved in the WB demo in London.</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>James</DIV> <DIV>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX<BR><BR>Fela Kuti tribute aims to raise awareness of plight of Africa<BR><BR>Big Birthday Bash: A Celebration of Fela Anikulapo Kuti s Birthday will<BR>take place on Thursday 16 October at The Fridge in Brixton, London. The<BR>concert, organised by the African Liberation Support Campaign (ALISC)<BR>Network, will celebrate the life and work of the political activist,<BR>outspoken radical and inventor of Afro-beat. Dele Sosimi and his 14-piece<BR>Afro-beat orchestra plus two female singers will perform Kuti s music as<BR>well as original compositions at the event which will also include short<BR>presentations on the subject of Africa s economic and political crisis.<BR><BR>Sosimi played in Kuti s band in Lagos and has a sizeable following in the<BR>UK. The band plays at venues such as London s Jazz Caf? and the Cargo.<BR><BR>Kuti s Afro-beat music has an audience that cuts across continents,<BR>languages and age groups. It is an original form constructed as a critique<BR>of successive military and civilian corrupt regimes in Nigeria. Kuti<BR>himself spent at least three years in Nigerian jails for his beliefs.
